Sargodha is administrative center of Sargodha District. The name Sargodha has its origins in the words Sar (meaning pond) and Godha (meaning sadhu). It is an agricultural trade centre with various industries. It is Pakistan’s best citrus-producing area. Sargodha is one of the few planned cities in Pakistan. Pakistan’s largest airbase, PAF Base Mushaf (formerly PAF Base Sargodha), is located here. During the1965 Indo Pak War, PAF Base Sargodha was a major target of Indian aircraft. The citizens of Sargodha fearlessly faced the numerous air raids. In 1966, recognising this courage, the Government of Pakistan awarded the city of Sargodha with the award of Hilal-e-Istaqlal. It is also known as “The City of Shaheens (Eagles)”.

I was in Sargodha from 1950 to 1958. High school Ambala Muslim and Fsc De Montmorancy college 1958. King Edward 1963. Left Pakistan in 1964 for US. Any body from that period?

Some years ago, there in Sargodha, were a few cinemas. Please tell the names and history of these old historical buildings.
Wow!! Can’t recognize much. I was there as a 5 or 6 year old when my father was a fighter pilot in PAF during late 1960s. But I do remember vaguely some rocky hills that were not too far from where we lived and the “Shaheen” Cinema. In those days, the PAF had begun to purchase a number of Mirage fighters from France and I recall the French personnel (off duty) hunting wild boars around the area. Oh well, times change. It all appears as if it was a dream.

Exactly what year were you there in the late 1960’s? I was perhaps a year or so younger than you and was there about the same time. My father, like yours, was flying MiG 19’s and Sabres at that time. I vaguely remember the Shaheen Cinema and the hills nearby (forgot what they were called). And you are absolutely right about the French…they used to hunt those boars all over the place! Like you, I can’t recognize much in the pics. I would very much like to visit someday though.
The hills are called Kirana Hills. I did my FSC from DE Montmorency College, now the Sargodha University, in 1958. Initially the original campus was the present PAF school.
The College moved to its present location in 1954.
